Your own Venn Diagram

Everyone has a unique set of experiences, interests, and skills. We passionately believe that the more you can combine all of these things together in creative ways, the better. In this lesson, you’ll create your own unique Venn Diagram that is going to inform your personal brand and help you stand out, speak more authentically about your business, and strengthen your differentiators.‍

The more you lean into your unique strengths, the more unique your business will be. This will make it easier for you to differentiate, faster to develop an excellent offering, and harder to duplicate by competitors.

Create your Venn diagram

Rather than thinking of your business experiences and skills as disparate, search for the spaces where they overlap that make you impossible to duplicate. Centering around this overlap ensures you find meaning in what comes next.

1. Use the Venn diagram in your workbook to create three “buckets” of information. In these three buckets, list out whatever comes to mind for the different categories. Don’t limit this to just professional interests and skills, either. Think about what brings you joy, what unique experiences you’ve had, and what you can’t stop thinking about in your free time.

  • What are you interested in?

  • What do you do well?

  • What will people pay for?

2. Consult your three “buckets” and start to place the items from them that overlap in the center.‍

3. What is in the middle, where all three of these overlap? Use this as a starting point to think about the unique strengths and offerings your business will offer.

Now that you have conducted customer interviews as well as competitive research and analysis, this Venn diagram can also help you correlate what pain points and desires came up in the customer interviews that you are uniquely equipped to solve. By doing this, we hope you’ve found the unique spaces that you own. You have many Venn diagrams you could make for different components of your life.

These areas of overlap are hard to duplicate and even harder to earn; not many people can populate that space (except for you!). Leverage your unique differentiation and bring that to your business. It is the first key to defensibility; your unique alchemy of experiences makes you perfectly suited to build this business.
