In this step, you’ll capitalize on the work you’ve done throughout the previous steps and communicating all your exciting changes with your existing clients.
By the end, you’ll have templates to share these updates with your clients. You’ll also have a completed business plan, and you’ll know how to use it.
First, make sure your website aligns with your new services and offerings. Make a checklist of any areas that need to be updated and tick them off as you go:
Now that you’re up to date, it’s time to email any clients you have on a retainer or on a repeat basis and let them know.
Here’s a template you can use to let clients know about your impending change.
Hi [client name],
Hope you’re well. I wanted to let you know that I adjust my rates every [time period] to account for market inflation and new skills. This also lets me give you better services!
In addition to [services you previously offered] / I’m moving away from [services you previously offered], I also/now offer:
• New service
• New service
• New service
As of [date], my rate will be [price].
If this new rate doesn’t work for you, let me know. I can connect you with another freelancer who can complete this work for you.
Thank you,
[Your name]
This may be a stressful moment — you’re making a change, and if you’re like most people, change feels unpleasant. That’s okay. Understand that good clients know you, value you, and are happy to pay more for your services. And if not? Then they weren’t the right client for you.
Once you’re done with that, make an intentional choice to send those emails out. Add to your calendar a one-hour time block to let your clients know about the upcoming change.
